Policy Issues Workshops
Legislative Briefing - What to Expect in the 2020 Session: The Legislature will begin its work in early January. Known as the “emergency” session, lawmakers will meet to discuss carry-over bills, as well as consider new bill titles as approved by the Legislative Council. This session promises to be a busy one – with carry-over legislation in the areas of tax policy, energy, natural resources, workforce development, and workplace issues, including paid family medical leave, to name a few. What’s more, there is likely to be a supplemental budget for consideration and approval. At this event, the Chamber's Advocacy staff will offer a preview of what’s coming, as well as what remains unfinished from last year.

Human Resource Issues Update: As a small business owner and an employer, you may have legal responsibilities under the federal employment anti-discrimination laws enforced by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Maine Human Rights Commission (MHRC). This workshop is designed with the intent to educate small businesses and help owners and managers focus on running a successful business by maintaining a strong EEO policy and will cover relevant topics. Business owners are encouraged to come with questions about their internal EEO policy.
